Years Experience
If you have surplus pallet racking — from a site closure, a relocation, a system upgrade, or simply space you no longer need — UM Storage Systems will buy it from you. We are one of the UK's largest used-racking buyers, with competitive market rates, same-day cash payment, and a full strip-out service that can either offset or completely cover the cost of removal.
We buy any brand: Dexion, Link 51, Apex, Redirack, Hilo, Mecalux, Stow, Stakapal, Hi-Lo and any other SEMA-grade UK or European system. Volume ranges from a single bay through to full-warehouse buy-outs of 5,000+ pallet positions. Quotations are free, no-obligation, and turned around within 48 hours of survey.
How the Buy-Back Process Works
Step one is a free site survey. One of our buyers visits the site, photographs the racking, measures the bay configurations, identifies the manufacturer and grades the components for reusability. We then issue a written valuation within 48 hours.
If you accept, we arrange a strip-out date, mobilise our directly employed CSCS-certified crew, dismantle the system to a documented method statement, and pay you on the day of collection. The whole process — from initial enquiry to cleared payment — typically completes within 2-4 weeks.
What We Look For When Valuing Racking
Reusable racking commands the strongest prices. We look for SEMA-grade construction, recognisable brand markings, minimal forklift impact damage, complete bracing, and beams matched to upright. Galvanised cold-store racking and heavy-duty deep-frame uprights typically attract the highest per-bay valuations.
Heavily damaged, mismatched or unbranded racking is still valuable as steel scrap, but commands a lower price. We will give you a separate scrap valuation for any components that fall outside reusable spec.
Why Sell to UM Storage Systems Instead of an Auction or Scrapper?
Auctioning unloved racking typically nets 15-25% of its true reuse value because buyers don't know what they're getting and have to factor in their own dismantling and transport costs. Scrap dealers pay only the steel-content value — typically 5-10% of reuse value.
Selling to a specialist used-racking buyer like UM Storage Systems delivers the highest realisable price because we have an immediate resale channel, a national logistics fleet, and our own dismantling crews. We routinely pay 3-5x what auction or scrap routes deliver.
National Coverage and Insurance
We collect from anywhere in the UK — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — with our own transport. Operations are fully insured (£10M public liability, £10M employers' liability), CDM-compliant and supported by our SEIRS-registered engineers.
Waste transfer notes are issued on collection for any non-reusable components, and we can certify the strip-out for your insurance and lease-handback files.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much is my used racking worth?
Reusable SEMA-grade racking typically attracts £15-£40 per bay depending on brand, size, condition and quantity. Galvanised and heavy-duty stock commands the highest prices. We provide a free written valuation within 48 hours of survey.
Do you buy damaged racking?
Yes — though damaged racking is valued as steel scrap rather than reusable stock. We will give you a separate valuation for reusable and scrap components so you can see the breakdown.
Will you strip the racking out for me?
Yes. On larger projects the strip-out is free as part of the buy-back deal. On smaller jobs we deduct a small dismantling fee from the sale price.
How quickly can you collect?
Typically 1-3 weeks from valuation acceptance. Faster on urgent jobs — we have collected and paid within 5 working days for site-closure customers.
