FULL WAREHOUSE FIT-OUT — 3PL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE, BIRMINGHAM
A growing 3PL operator in Birmingham needed to transform a 40,000 sq ft empty warehouse unit into a fully operational distribution centre. We designed and installed 280 bays of adjustable pallet racking across 6 aisles, a 200m² mezzanine floor for pick-and-pack operations, and longspan shelving for smaller items. The project was completed on time and within budget, enabling the client to begin operations just 4 weeks after taking on the lease.
EMERGENCY RACKING REPAIR — COLD STORAGE FACILITY, NEWCASTLE
A forklift collision in a temperature-controlled warehouse caused significant damage to two upright frames and three beam levels. The damaged section was carrying over 12 tonnes of frozen food stock. Our emergency team attended site within 4 hours, safely offloaded the affected bays, replaced the damaged uprights and beams, and had the racking back in full operation before the end of the same shift. No stock was lost and no injuries occurred.
WAREHOUSE RELOCATION — MANUFACTURING COMPANY, MANCHESTER
A precision engineering company needed to relocate their entire warehouse operation from a 20,000 sq ft unit to a larger 35,000 sq ft facility across the city. We dismantled 150 bays of pallet racking and a 150m² mezzanine, transported everything to the new site, and reinstalled the racking in an optimised layout with additional new bays to fill the larger space. The entire project was completed over two weekends to minimise production downtime.
USED RACKING SUPPLY — E-COMMERCE START-UP, LEEDS
A fast-growing e-commerce business needed 80 bays of pallet racking for their first dedicated warehouse but had a limited budget. We supplied quality used Dexion Speedlock racking at 45% less than new pricing, delivered it to site within 5 working days, and professionally installed the complete system. The client saved over £8,000 compared to buying new — capital they reinvested into stock and marketing.
ANNUAL RACKING INSPECTION — MULTI-SITE RETAILER, NATIONWIDE
A national retailer with 12 regional distribution centres appointed UM Storage Systems to carry out annual racking safety inspections across all sites. Our inspectors assessed over 3,000 bays of racking, identifying 47 Red-risk items requiring immediate action and 182 Amber-risk items for planned repair. We provided detailed photographic reports for each site and completed all Red-risk repairs within 48 hours of inspection.
CANTILEVER RACKING — TIMBER MERCHANT, BRISTOL
A timber merchant required a heavy-duty external storage solution for lengths of timber, steel bar, and plastic piping. We designed and installed a 12-bay run of double-sided cantilever racking with galvanised finish for weather resistance. The system provides covered, organised storage for materials up to 6 metres in length, dramatically improving stock accessibility and yard safety.
