    NEW VS USED PALLET RACKING
    COST, QUALITY & ROI — 2026

We supply and install both. So unlike most racking suppliers, we have no axe to grind. This guide gives you the 2026 UK numbers — real cost per pallet, lead times, 5-year total cost of ownership, residual value and the four scenarios where each one wins. By the end you'll know exactly which to specify for your warehouse.

    The 30-Second Verdict

For around 70% of UK warehouse operators, inspected used pallet racking from a SEMA-trained supplier is the better commercial decision — typically 40–60% cheaper, in stock within days, and carrying the same statutory safety standing as new once installed. New pallet racking wins when you need bespoke dimensions, contractual specification of new equipment, a long manufacturer warranty for finance, or heavy-duty profiles that rarely come up secondhand. We'll quote both in the same proposal so you can compare like-for-like.

    CHOOSE NEW RACKING IF...

    • You need bespoke beam lengths or non-standard upright heights
    • Contract or tender mandates new equipment in spec
    • You need a 10–25 year manufacturer warranty for asset finance
    • Heavy-duty profiles (beams > 3,000kg UDL) are required
    • You're matching an existing new system installed within the last 5 years
    See New Pallet Racking

    CHOOSE USED RACKING IF...

    • You want a 40–60% cost reduction without compromising safety
    • You need racking on site within days, not weeks
    • Standard SEMA-compliant beam & upright sizes fit your layout
    • Sustainability or scope-3 carbon targets matter to your business
    • You'd rather spend the saving on extra pallet positions or aisle protection

"Is Used Racking Really As Safe?"

Short answer: yes, when it's inspected properly. The longer answer is what separates a £40 Gumtree bargain from racking you'd trust your team to stand under. Every used component we sell goes through a five-stage process before it ships:

    1. Source verification — chain of custody, original manufacturer ID, load history where available.
    2. Dismantle by our own SEMA-trained crew — never a sub-contracted weekend team.
    3. Component-level inspection against the SEMA RAG criteria. Anything Red is scrapped, not resold.
    4. Refurbishment — repaint, replace fixings, straighten Amber-grade items where economic.
    5. Re-certification — load notice issued, install certificate at handover, first-year inspection included.

The HSE doesn't care whether your steel was rolled in 2024 or 2004. It cares about deflection, weld integrity, anchor security and load discipline. Inspected used racking and new racking pass and fail those tests on identical criteria.

Send us your layout (or just rough dimensions and pallet counts) and we'll cost both new and used pallet racking side-by-side — same engineer, same install spec, same warranty terms. Decide on the numbers, not the sales pitch.
