Years Experience
Damaged pallet racking is one of the leading causes of warehouse incidents in the UK and a direct breach of HSE HSG76, PUWER 1998 and SEMA guidance if left unrepaired. UM Storage Systems delivers brand-matched, SEIRS-aligned racking repairs nationwide — replacement uprights, beam change-outs, splice repairs, full frame replacements and full system buy-back-and-replace where uprights are too damaged to recover.
We hold stock of the most common UK racking brands — Dexion, Apex, Link 51, Redirack, Hilo, Mecalux, Stow — and can usually match your existing system on a like-for-like basis with no need to replace adjacent frames.
Repair vs Replace: When Does Each Apply?
SEMA classifies racking damage Red / Amber / Green. Red defects must be unloaded and repaired within 24 hours. Amber defects must be repaired within four weeks. Green defects are within tolerance and need no immediate action.
Most Amber and Red defects can be repaired in place: replacement uprights, splice repairs to footplates, replacement beams and replacement bracing components are all standard. Green-tagged minor surface damage is often left for monitoring at the next inspection cycle.
Splice Repair Kits
A splice repair replaces only the bottom 1-1.5m of an upright — the section that suffers the vast majority of forklift impact damage — without disturbing the rest of the rack or unloading the bay. The original upright is cut above the damaged zone and a new SEMA-approved splice section is bolted in.
Splice repairs are quick, cost-effective and minimise operational disruption. UM Storage Systems uses only SEMA-approved splice kits matched to your existing upright profile.
Full Upright and Frame Replacement
Where damage extends above the splice zone or affects multiple bays, full upright or frame replacement is required. We unload the bay, prop or shore as needed, remove the damaged frame, install a brand-matched replacement and recommission the bay with a load test.
Frame replacements typically complete in a single shift per bay, with overnight working available for sensitive operations.
Emergency 24/7 Response
Forklift impacts and rack collapses don't wait for office hours. UM Storage Systems operates a 24/7 emergency repair service across the UK, with response times typically 4-8 hours for Red-tagged defects in major conurbations and within 24 hours nationwide.
Every emergency repair is closed out with photographs, a written report, an updated load notice and an entry in your inspection log.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How quickly can you respond to a Red-tagged defect?
Typically 4-8 hours in major UK conurbations, within 24 hours nationwide. Out-of-hours and weekend response is included in our standard service.
Can you repair my brand of racking?
Yes. We hold stock of the most common UK brands — Dexion, Link 51, Apex, Redirack, Hilo, Mecalux, Stow — and can match almost any system on a like-for-like basis.
Is a splice repair as strong as a full upright?
Yes — SEMA-approved splice kits restore the upright to its original load capacity when installed correctly. We only use approved kits matched to your specific upright profile.
Do I need to unload the rack for a repair?
Splice repairs and minor beam swaps can usually be carried out without unloading. Full frame replacement requires unloading the affected bay; we plan repairs around your stock movements to minimise disruption.
