We dismantle to a documented method statement, segregate components for reuse or recycling, and either reinstall on your new site, return to our buy-back yard, or recycle through certified UK steel recyclers. Every project is fully insured, CDM-compliant and SEIRS-aligned.
Strip-Out, Sort, Stack and Ship
Every dismantling project starts with a free site survey, an approved method statement and a CDM construction phase plan. Our directly employed crews — CSCS, IPAF and PASMA-certified — strip the racking using approved manual handling techniques, segregate beams, uprights and bracing, and stack each component type on dedicated pallets ready for transport.
Damaged or end-of-life components are recycled through certified UK steel recyclers. Reusable components are either delivered to your new site for re-installation or transported to our buy-back yard for refurbishment and resale.
Relocation and Re-Installation
Relocating an existing racking system is typically 50-70% cheaper than buying new — but only if the dismantle, transport and re-installation are properly engineered. We re-survey the new site, confirm component condition, design any required modifications, and re-install with a SEIRS-aligned handover inspection at the end.
Where the existing racking is too damaged or no longer suits the new operation, we will price both relocation and a new-build alternative so you can make a clear-eyed decision.
Buy-Back and Asset Recovery
If you don't need your old racking, we'll buy it. UM Storage Systems is one of the UK's largest used-racking buyers, paying competitive market rates for SEMA-grade reusable racking from any brand. Payment is made on collection — typically the same day for smaller jobs.
Buy-back can offset the cost of new racking, dismantling or even pay for the entire strip-out on larger projects. Our team will value your existing racking as part of the free survey.
Insurance, CDM and Documentation
Every UM Storage Systems dismantling project is delivered under CDM 2015 with us acting as Principal Contractor. Method statements, risk assessments and Construction Phase Plans are issued before mobilisation. Operatives carry CSCS, IPAF and PASMA cards as relevant.
We carry £10 million public liability and £10 million employers' liability insurance. Waste transfer notes and recycling certificates are issued on completion.
